Accommodation

Large, fully fitted farmhouse kitchen with a cooker, hob, full size fridge, double sinks and a separate freezer. There is also a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. Cutlery, plates and cooking/cleaning utensils are all provided.

The living room has a dining table to seat 10 people and plenty of comfortable seating. There is a CD jukebox and computer with internet access, email and fax. Optional satellite TV, DVD player, video recorder and x-box console (with games) can also be provided free of charge. There is also a log burning stove for cosy evenings in front of the fire during the cooler months.

All bedrooms are equipped with a wardrobe, shelving, full length mirror and vanity table.

There is also a bed settee and travel cot available (by request), bringing the maximum capacity of the house to twelve (plus a baby).

Outside

With so much to do on site (play area, games barn, mini fam, horse riding) your children will love Saumort.

We are on site to help if you have any problems but we respect your privacy and your pool and garden area are yours alone for the duration of your holiday.

The farmhouse has a private gated entrance and is set well back from the very quiet road.

The figure of eight shaped pool is 12m x 5.5m and has a 'roman end' with steps into the water.

The pool is surrounded by a non-slip terrace with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. The water in the pool is heated by our autofed, wood-burning boiler which guarantees you an optimum temperature regardless of the weather.

There is also a covered barbecue area with table and chairs, so you can eat outside as often as you like. Automatic sensors turn on the lighting for the pool area as dusk falls.

Next to the pool are two solar heated showers for a quick wash down before and after a refreshing swim.

Next to the barbecue area is a well lit, sand boule court.

We have a large, floodlit games barn with a table tennis table, a basket ball net and a darts board. There is also a selection of games, jigsaws and packs of cards in the gite and don't forget you can borrow our x-box games for free too.

There is a children’s play area with an assortment of swings, a slide, a 4m trampoline with safety net, swing ball and badminton.

All the outdoor areas within the gite's boundaries are security fenced with unclimbable fencing.

Children’s farm

Here at Saumort we love animals and we have an ever growing collection of pets for you and your children to feed, play with and enjoy.

There's our piggy friends, Norman & Dee, who are a special breed called Kunekune from New Zealand and are renowned for their love of humans. They will 'sit' for you if you offer them a piece of fruit.

And we have three pigmy goats who are very gentle and rather cute, too.

We have a collection of chickens and ducks who lay lovely fresh eggs for your breakfast and love to eat any unwanted kitchen scraps.

Then there's Rosie & Tank, the dogs, who adore chasing sticks and love to play at any time of the day.

And of course there are the ponies who you can groom, feed carrots, help take to the fields or, of course, ride - there is always something to do here.

If animals are not your thing you do not need to get involved. The gite is fully enclosed to prevent unwanted visitors

Local area

La Chapelle Thireuil, our local village, is 3km away and it has a boulangerie / general store and a very French bar. The bread van calls at Saumort three times a week and it sells provisions as well as a selection of French bread.

Coulonges-sur-L'Autize is 13km away and has banks/cash points, a supermarket with petrol station, chemists, post office and several welcoming bars.

Secondigny is 10km away and has the same amenities as Coulonges, however, it is not as attractive. It does, however, have a supermarket open on a Sunday morning.

There are two very nice restaurants less than ten minutes away from Saumort.

Set on the side of a lake 20km away, is a sandy beach complete with slides, pedolos and life guard.

There are miles of beautiful sandy beaches all along the coast at la Rochelle (1-1 1/2 hours away).

The Marais Poitevin (or Green Venice) is a fascinating maze of rivers, dykes and tree-shaded canals which thread between meadows and fields. They cover an area of 230,000 acres from Niort and Fontenay-Le-Compte to the Atlantic ocean. The best way to explore is by boat, either with or without a guide.

Golf - Parcours Formule Golf is a lovely course set in the grounds of a beautiful chateau, Golf Club Niortais 18 hole course and the Château des Forges Golf and Country Club, one of the most beautiful golf courses in France.
