Accommodation

Your holiday accommodation is an ancient French farmhouse, parts of which date from before Napoleon. We extended the original house into the old farm building to create a spacious, modern home whilst keeping most of the character features. This provides bright and airy accommodation, unlike many old French Farmhouses.

The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, cooker, toaster and washing machine.

There are four double bedrooms (two double, two twin), one with ensuite.

Family bathroom on the first floor.

In the lounge is a large TV with English channels, DVD player, 2nd TV with Xbox and a football table.

There is a large selection of DVDs and books. There is also lots of seating, for you to relax and look out over the rear garden, with views out to the rolling farmland.

The lake and fish

The lake was dug in the 60’s and has now matured into a beautiful 2 acre water with a mixture of beech, birch, oak, chestnut and conifers surrounding it.

We created Le Marteau to indulge our own love of coarse angling and the beautiful French countryside. You will see why we chose this spot.

Surrounded by trees, the lake is in a sheltered position so no matter what the weather you will be comfortable. The private lake is around two metres deep at its deepest, the bottom being gravel around the sides and silty in the middle.

The lake was set up with families in mind, so we have big fish for dad and plenty of others for the kids. Currently there are Mirror Carp to 14-30lb, Bream to 5lb, Tench to 4lb, Roach and Perch to 2lb, a few Pike, Grass Carp and two very visible Golden Carp.

There are four rods, reels, landing net and unhooking mat for you to use, just bring terminal tackle. Lake rules must be adhered to at all times.

Great fishing - In a 4 hour session on float-fished corn a bag of 4 tench, 20 Bream, 25 Roach and 2 Carp.

The area

We are a 25 minute drive from Limoges airport, a 6 hour drive from Caen or Dieppe and 7 hours from Calais.

The Charente is the second sunniest area of France. The summers are usually long and hot with spring starting a month earlier and winter a month later than in the UK.

April and May will have some wet days but the temperature can get into the 20’s.

July and August will probably be into the 30’s, cooling back into the 20’s during September and October. Expect some frost in November but during the days it can still be pleasantly warm.

If you are able to find anything comparable, cheaper per person, we will better that price.

We are confident there is not another combination like ours of a Farmhouse of more than 250 square metres with a fully stocked lake as beautiful as Le Marteau. You can certainly catch bigger Carp elsewhere, but we aim to cater for the whole family whether they fish or not.

For Exclusive use of the lake please add £250 per week.

 Two towels per person and all bed linen are included.

A babies cot is available if required.

There are 3 bikes available for guests use.

A food pack can be provided at a small charge.
Bait can also be arranged at a reasonable rate.
