Accommodation

One double bedroom (travel cot available) and spacious, modern shower room on the 1st floor.

Sitting room with UK Freeview TV, plus French TV channels, DVD player, CD / radio plus Broadband access via wireless connection.

In the sitting room there is a double sofabed - or alternatively we can provide a full size occasional-use single bed either in the bedroom or in the dining room, as well as a smaller occasional-use single, ideal for a child up to 12.

Separate dining room with wood-burning stove.

Small kitchen equipped with fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine, coffee maker, toaster and the usual kitchen necessities.

Bed linen, towels, tea cloths etc. are provided, along with cleaning products and a vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board. A weekly change of bed linen will be provided for a two week or longer stay.

Baby equipment can be provided if needed - travel cot, high chair and stair safety gate.

Outside

There is small private garden / patio area with garden furniture and barbecue for you to take ‘al fresco’ meals.

Ample off road parking in front of the cottage.

Beyond the garden is totally open countryside, where the only neighbours are the pretty brown Limousin cattle and the occasional deer.

From the garden you can watch buzzards and hawks hunting and can hear many kinds of animal noises. At dusk, it is fascinating to watch the several varieties of European bats darting around, hunting moths.

Also to look out for is the huge toad who has taken to sitting on the front doorstep when all is quiet at night. First glimpse can tend to be a bit of a surprise.

Our guests are also amazed by the crystal clear night sky and the spectacular star constellations clearly visible.

Local area

Situated in the beautiful, peaceful, Limousin region, the cottage is ideally placed for exploring all the region has to offer.

The village of Mailhac sur Benaize is a mile from the Haute Vienne town of St. Sulpice Les Feuilles.

The best and nearest selection of shops is in La Souterraine a 15 minute drive from the cottage.

The Limousin is a very beautiful and rural area of France, very sparsely populated and with lots of quiet country lanes and tiny hamlets to explore.

You will be able to explore the immediate vicinity on the 2 adult mountain bikes we provide for guests to use (you need to supply your own safety helmet / equipment).

The cottage is only a mile from Lac Mondon with stunning riverside walks.

Here there is a lovely open-air swimming pool with a large waterslide, open during the summer season.
There is a children’s play area next to the lake, and a bar/restaurant, run by a British family, which hosts live entertainment at weekends through the holiday season.
It is a fisherman’s paradise – day permits are readily available from the campsite reception. Pedalos can be hired for a trip out on the lake.

A new restaurant at St Leger Magnazeix, a few kilometres from the cottage offers a great range of midday and evening menus to suit all tastes and budgets.

The city of Limoges is a 45 minute drive from the cottage. There are many visitor attractions in and around Limoges, including the famous porcelain factories.

Alternatively, for a very poignant and thought-provoking visit you may choose to go to the martyr village of Oradour sur Glane.

We can thoroughly recommend a visit to the superb Zooparc Beauval, which although a two hour drive north from the cottage, in our opinion is worth the trip if only just to see the magnificent manatee! It is described by some of our visitors as ‘absolutely the best zoo they have ever visited’.

Limoges airport is less than an hour away by car and Poitiers airport is also within easy reach.

Electricity and logs for the woodburner are extra at cost.

We do accept well-behaved pets – please contact us for details.

We would prefer those of you who smoke to smoke outside please.

The cottage is available to rent on a longer term outside of the above periods at a very competitive weekly or monthly rent.
