Local Area The gite is just a few minutes walk from Canet centre, which has shops, a pharmacy, bakery, butchers, pizzeria, bar / restaurant and shaded promenade. Canet d’Aude is a lively village in the heart of the Aude, only 30km from the sandy Mediterranean beaches and 20km from the Corbieres mountains. There are many theatre, sports and music events in the summer. The nearest village to Canet is Ventenac-en-Minervois with its stunning chateau and winery. From here it is possible walk many kilometres alongside the beautiful canal du Midi. Narbonne - 15 kms away - is a beautiful town with the canal de la Robine running through it. Narbonne offers many affordable bars and restaurants with excellent lunchtime and evening menus. Also worth visiting is the Archbishop's Palace and its donjon with views over Narbonne. There is also an archaeological museum in the town centre. The Halles de Narbonne covered market operates every day. The busiest times are Sunday and Thursday mornings. The historic city of Carcassonne is just over 30 minutes away. Perpignan is less than an hour away and the Spanish border is just over an hours drive |
